Nader’s Guide to blow-dry perfection

Why is it that no matter how hard we try, we can never achieve that gorgeous salon-finished look? Blowdry salons are popping up all over the world and it’s no mystery why. Having freshly blowdried hair is a total mojo boost. My dear stylist, Nader, who travels to my (disaster of a) flat, styles my hair, gives my squirmy children haircuts, chats to them about Peppa Pig, wipes noses, then sweeps my floor, now goes a step further by bringing us his Top 10 Guide to The Perfect Blow-out Blowdry.

Number 1: Start with damp hair- not too wet, not too dry. About 75% dry he says, aka my “Cousin It” look.

Number 2: Have the right tools. Nader uses a ceramic round brush, a million little clips to separate the sections, and a parlux hair dryer. For a straight look, he recommends a paddle brush or a large round brush so it makes the ends easier to straighten .

Number 3: Don’t be afraid to use product. Nader uses the Kerastase line, which smells wonderful and leaves your hair silky smooth. Using a dab of Elixir will go a long way in locking your style in place.

Number 4: Start from the bottom. Fasten the top of your hair on your head with a large claw clip. Then point the nozzle of your blowdryer at an angle from the roots down toward the ends. Dry each strand several times before moving on to the next section.

Number 5: Moving your way up the head, creating silky smooth strands by pulling the hair away from your head and securing the curl or the straightness by holding the brush in place at the ends and applying 1-2 seconds of direct heat.

Number 6 : Keep the dryer moving constantly to avoid applying too much heat in the same spot, which can lead to dryness and damage.

Number 7: Decide how you would like your bangs, or the hair surrounding your face, to look. If you have short bangs, use a medium size hair brush. Pull the bangs straight out from your forehead and aim the dryer nozzle towards their ends, keeping the dryer on medium heat.

Number 8: For a voluminous effect, flip hair upside down. You’ll also enjoy a nice rush of blood to the head ; )

Number 9: Finish with another dab of product. Bumble and Bumble grooming creme works well for sealing in a polished look.

Number 10: If you are going out into unfavorable weather, a little anti-frizz spray will protect the hair from the wind and keep it looking uber lovely.
